Product Safety Manager
This role can be based in Cheadle, Bristol, Templecombe or Crawley with a strong element of Home Working

Our Opportunity:
Thales Defence Missions Systems (DMS) have a fantastic opportunity for a Product Safety Manager to support the following business areas: Under Water Systems (UWS), Above Water Systems (AWS) and Electronic Countermeasure Systems (ECS).
You will be responsible for ensuring Product Safety and Environmental engineering activities are managed and delivered appropriately across allocated projects/products and taking into account current legislation as well as specific contractual requirements. This will include the production of Safety Arguments and relevant documentation for our products, oversight of all aspects of product safety management, and supporting the Safety Authority in the delivery and assurance of compliant products through the provision of relevant safety and environmental expertise.
About you:
You will have experience in a safety engineering role, ideally within the Defence or Maritime industries, or other safety critical industry, together with the following:-
Expert with safety policies and procedures (e.g. Product Safety Management)
Significant knowledge of and experience in all phases of Life Cycle Management, so as to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life engineering issues
Knowledge of Design and Project Phase Reviews
Knowledge of key MoD product safety and environmental engineering standards and documents, including Def Stan 00-051, 00-055 and 00-056, as well as POSMS and POEMS
Knowledgeable with respect to UK and International Product Safety related Legislation and Regulation, including IEC 61508 and UK CA / EU CE Marking
Knowledgeable in the use of formal hazard identification and assessment techniques and methods e.g. HAZOPS (Hazard and Operability Studies), SWIFT (Structured What-If Technique), FTA/ETA (Fault/Event Tree Analysis), FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) etc.
Experience in Product Safety Management, including the production of safety documentation and evidence for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) or a related, safety critical industry
Familiarity and experience with Product Environmental Legislation and Regulations is highly desirable
Knowledge of quality management, configuration control and audits
A background in Engineering Practices
Able to facilitate decision-making, team building and conflict resolution
Able to influence the design, modification and improvement to relevant processes and material parts to meet requirements.
Ability to build positive and effective relationships with all stakeholders providing customer focus and shaping expectations
Good communication and influencing skills
Ability to work with a low level of supervision
